About Famylink
Who I am
My name is Amit Gnatek.
I’m an expert genealogist, researching my family roots since 2013 and providing genealogy services with FamyLink.
I volunteer in JRI-Poland (Jewish Records Indexing – Poland) as the Town Leader of several towns, assisting researchers and extracting information from the Polish archive.
I’m a Lieutenant Colonel (retired) in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), with years of experience as a field commander in the Armored Corps as well as in Strategic Planning and Foreign Military Cooperation as a General Staff Officer.
How I Started
It all started when I went to Poland with an IDF delegation in 2013 (Witnesses in Uniform). During our preparations at Yad-Vashem, I realized that my knowledge of my Family's stories was insufficient (understatement).
I made up my mind to start researching and documenting my family roots, starting with my family tree and website. I gained knowledge and experience, developed my research tools and taught myself some Polish and Russian in order to decipher records from the archive.
In 2018, after my retirement from the IDF, I started volunteering at JRI-Poland as a Town Leader in several towns and in other projects. I assisted researchers in finding their family roots and started giving lectures on genealogy.
On January 2022 I established Famylink in order to provide genealogy services.
